Welcome to the "Pelvic fracture recovery/back in the saddle, done with Covid-19, almost ready to retire & hit the road- Bike Tour." This trip has been in the planning phase for nearly a year, born in the depth of lockdown in summer 2020; and in truth, ever since finishing the southern end of the Pacific coast on my last bike-packing trip in summer 2018. Riding the central Coast from San Francisco to LA was more fun than I can remember in a long time, and I've been determined to bookend that trip with one covering the remainder of the west coast ever since. Over the past 9 months, and a lot uncertainty due to Covid restrictions, hard to find vaccinations, and a fractured pelvis, as summer finally approaches, it looks like this will really happen! :-) The plan is to carry as little as possible in the way of gear, staying in hotels and air-bnb's, and ride a little over a 1000 miles in 13 days of riding, with a rest day in the middle. The route runs from Seattle, southward all along the Pacific coast to San Francisco, riding about 80 miles each day on average.
Beginning on July 8th, I'll try to post something each day, with a few pictures and commentary on whatever seems interesting. I'll also be posting on Instagram (@ssshanno), and of course on Strava (Scott Shannon) if you want to get into the nitty gritty of routes and terrain. So if you're curious, you can follow along and see how things are going, or where I'm at along the way :-) Until then, I may post a little something on preparations now & then, as well as gear notes and bike tweaks...
Bring on summer!
Scott - you will bike 1000 miles as we drive 2400 miles - your 13 days sound like way more fun than ours!! May it only rain on you at night!!
ReplyDeleteScott, best wishes for a safe and fulfilling ride!! Peter
