Beyond the kitchy veneer, however, was a nice set of trails through 80 acres of mostly 70 year old second growth redwoods, stka spruce and Douglas fir, and about 5 acres or real old growth redwoods including an impressive monster called the Brotherhood Tree that is almost 300' tall, 19' in diameter, and over 3000 years old. And I got the 20% senior discount so why not :-)
There was also a pretty nicely done set of small canopy walkways, that weren't quite like those on Monteverde, but we're still nice to get an elevated perspective on the forest.
So, tomorrow I'm back on the road, with a relatively short ride (just 55 miles, but with lots of climbing) to lick of the California leg of the tour. I'm spending the whole day riding through redwood National Park and on down to Trinidad on the coast just north of Eureka, where I rode several summers ago with Carol Dyer and Tim O'Boyle. With a little luck, I mayeet up for a few miles with Tim... fingers crossed!
Cheers, Scott
