Shortly after I fixed the flat, the Oregon Coast Bikeway beared off US 101 onto the old "scenic" highway up and overover the Cascade Head pass. Only about 800' of climbing, the old road wound up a really cool stream valley, the switchbacked up over the ridge into the next valley back down to the coast.
The next section of coast included another departure from 101 onto the Otter Crest Loop. This 6 mile, single lane road was limited to bikes and cars only going southbound. The road climbed along cliffs up to 300-400' above the rocks below, with regular vista turn-outs to admire the views...
Finally, before rolling into Newport, I passed by Seal Rock, a mound of columnar basalt just off shore.
After another 20 miles of rolling, windswept dunes and wide, white sand beaches, I arrived in Yachats for the night after a bit shorter day at just 76 miles, and 3600' of climbing. Given the tailwind, a pretty easy day, but my bum is ready for a test :-)
Yachats is a cute little town on a small bay, and site of my first Airbnb of the trip. I've got a whole half of a small duplex to myself and it's perfect! So .. I'm off to walk around and check out the town... Cheers!
